Standardization is the secret sauce that allows us to purchase goods and services with a high level of comfort.

(This course is a bit longer than normal. Bear with us please; it’s important.)

Standardization allows us to forget about the details every time we use a good or service and get on with our lives. When we buy regular gasoline, we know we are getting a minimum of 87 octane. Standardization is based on regulation and enforcement and trust. We know the gas station will deliver what they say they will and we don’t even think about it.

The mat market lacks standardization, partially because there are lots of wood species in the USA and there are many manufacturers with local requirements and limitations. The common theme between different matting products such as timber mats, laminated mats, bolted access mats, composite mats, steel mats, and others is dimension and absence of rot (where applicable). That’s a scant specification.

With standardized Eucalyptus timber mats each mat is the same as the last mat. That’s because we use the same raw materials, the same fiber sources, the same manufacturing process, the same manufacturing facility, the same bolt, plate and end-seal manufacturers, with whom we’ve been working for years. Better, uniform materials, manufactured in the same manner, both subject to consistent quality control and testing, make a standardized product.

The benefits are higher reliability and lower purchase and use risk, ease of planning, and lower total cost of ownership. World Forest Group’s Eucalyptus mats are able to be standardized because we start with standardized and better materials. That standardization allows us to provide a 10-point product manufacturing guarantee and allows you to forget about the details.

Standardization field applications: Consistency and quality result from standardization; benefits are multiple.

  1. Safety is first when designing and manufacturing our mats. Design features such as reduced (or eliminated) notches were added specifically to reduce safety risk. Similarly, constructing mats of a single, uniform, strong, lighter weight, plantation-grown species greatly reduces the variability of our product. Square edges and clear wood, rather than wane, bark or rot, make a mat with higher design and wear integrity…as well as a safer mat. We inspect the timbers twice to eliminate wane and rot, greatly increasing the strength and safety of the final product.
  2. Eucalyptus standardization allows you to right-size your mats to use the product best for your needs…and capture significant savings.
  3. The use of high-quality raw materials manufactured in a consistent environment results in a longer lasting mat. Increased mat life yields additional savings to you over the life of the mat.
